Re-read feb 2012... Still love the book, the surprising storyline and direction. Coming from the vantage point of reading the entire series multiple times and completely thru, all the early Frank and Inverness filler takes on a whole new life as the side stories and subtle hints take a full storyline in later books. Herself sure does weave a great tale and I often have to remind myself that these are fictional characters. What I like most is how Scotland is brought to life in the landscape the plants, the living conditions, the people, and how they lived. The dislikes are few, but the excessive explanation and graphic details of the rape, the rough and frequent J & C sex scenes and the in depth breastfeeding description was a bit much. I nursed too, and it wasn't romantic. . First read in 2008.
