What a great Apocolyptic ride! Penryn is the keeper of her family in a world where angels are the bad guys and it's everyone for themselves. Sadly, Penryn's family consist of a schizophrenic mother who is no longer on her meds and a little sister who's paralyzed from the waist down. While foraging for food, her sister Paige is taken by a group of angels and Penryn is left with the injured angel, Raffe. She is deperate to save her sister and decides that Raffe may be her only hopToni leading her to the other angels. I liked how the world building reveals itself slowly as the unlikely pair travel towards their goals. Your not choked with this alternate reality all up front trying to digest too much info, as in many first series novels. This was a pretty dark read and you really feel the despair of the character as she battles to recover her sister as she encounters obstacles that her crazy mother somehow prepared her for out of paranoia. It wasn't a fast mover in the beginning, but ewwww what an exciting finish that leaves you with many unanswered questions. I'm excited to see where this story goes from here.
